Objectives:
Student will be able to:
Identify and demonstrate the use of accurate past, present, and future tenses of regular and irregular verbs in both oral and written language.
Identify and accurately use terms related to planning a party in both oral and written language.
Enhance their word processing and computer/Internet skills by using various technologies to complete the assignment.
Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will ask students if they ever planned a party or event. The teacher will ask the students if they know any of the steps involved in planning a party or event. The teacher will then provide an overview of the assignment.
Procedures:
Introduction (3 minutes)
Teacher welcomes student.
Teacher explains objectives of the lesson.
Students will be assigned to work with a partner.
Activity 1 (5 minutes) E-Planning Party Introduction
Teacher will ask students: “Who has planned a party or event?”
Teacher will review the components of planning a party.
Teacher will explain the ultimate goal of the activity.
Activity 2 (20 minutes) Computer Account Set-up
Teacher will ask students if they have ever heard of Wikispaces.
Teacher will provide an overview of what Wikispaces is, and what it will be used for during this activity.
Students will use the computer to create a Wikispaces account.
Teacher will ask students if they have ever heard of Wallwisher.
Teacher will provide an overview of what Wallwisher is, and what it will be used for during this activity.
Students will use the computer to create a Wallwisher account.
Teacher will ask students if they have ever heard of Flickr.
Teacher will provide an overview of what Flickr is, and what it will be used for during this activity.
Students will use the computer to create a Flickr account.
Teacher will ask students if they have ever heard of Evite.
Teacher will provide an overview of what Evite is, and what it will be used for during this activity.
Students will use the computer to create an Evite account.
The teacher will explain to students how to save their information on these websites to use for future lessons.
Activity 3 (7 minutes) Party themed vocabulary
Students will be introduced to new vocabulary related to parties and party planning.
Students will take notes and write down the new vocabulary that the teacher mentions to use when planning their parties.
Students will pair up to review future, past, and present verb tenses from provided sentence strips by the teacher; students will underline verbs in present tense in yellow, past tense in green, and future tense in blue.
Each pair will present one sentence strip and explain why they classified the sentence with that tense.
Teacher will explain that the students are to focus on using accurate tense when posting information on the web programs.
Closure: (5 minutes)
Each student will write one sentence in each verb tense for their “exit ticket” from class.
Teacher explains that in the next class the students will brainstorm ideas for their parties.
Evaluation:
Assessment will be conducted during class based on the students' group work performance, and ability to create accounts for the web programs. The "exit ticket" sentences will be corrected by the teacher and reviewed in the next class. The students’ performance and participation will be monitored by the teacher, and assistance will be provided as needed.
